Regions in this State
NSW: Blue Mountains
Misty blue hues, vast canyons, plunging waterfalls and those famous jaw-dropping views combine with quaint villages and magnificent gardens, galleries, guest houses, curio shops, restaurants and tea houses to provide an idyllic and inspiring backdrop for the Short Break you deserve.
Just over an hour from Sydney you can experience the mystique of these majestic ranges. Each season provides a different experience, from the amber shades of autumn and the snow of winter to the colours of spring and the cool respite of the mountains in summer.
After you've seen Katoomba's Three Sisters, venture further afield to explore the equally spectacular scenery around Blackheath, Mt Wilson and Mt Victoria or seek sanctuary in the forest on one of the many superb bushwalks. The pure, fresh air is bound to stir the palate and the choice is vast from stately teahouses and old-fashioned pubs, to gastronomic havens serving the finest food and wine.
NSW: Capital Country - NSW
NSW: Central Coast NSW
Take a short drive from Sydney, board a cruiseboat, point it up the sparkling Hawkesbury and seemingly you can be a million miles from anywhere in only a few minutes.
You can live it up by the beach in cosmopolitan resort towns like Terrigal or disappear into the rolling green hills behind the coast amid the rustic Dooralong and Yarramalong Valleys.
Days spent on the Central Coast are carefree, casual and relaxed. Sand between your toes, ocean breezes in your hair or snoozing under a ferny glade.
NSW: Hawkesbury
The Hawkesbury River is one of the great East Coast rivers. Within the Hawkesbury are some of the oldest settlements in Australia. The four remaining 'Macquarie' towns, established by Governor Macquarie in 1810 remain are beautiful historic treasures: Windsor, Richmond, Wilberforce and Pitt Town. The Hawkesbury river travels through some exceptionally wonderful country, much of which is still inaccessible. It opens into a magnificent estuary at Brooklyn before entering the ocean at Pittwater.
NSW: Heart of Country NSW
Heart of Country NSW provides the visitor with an unforgettable experience. The region's history can be read in its architecture - from humble slab huts to the lavish hotels and mansions built during gold and farming booms. Places such as Gulgong, Ophir and Sofala are a window on our pioneering past.
After a day exploring the wide open spaces you can sample the superb food, wine and hospitality of the region particularly in the Cowra-Orange-Mudgee district.
Central NSW offers a diverse range of discovery-type experiences, a highlight of which is the famous Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo.
There are 14 National Parks and nature reserves to discover - including Wollemi National Park in the south to the Warrumbungles in the north - and many opportunities to explore underground at Abercrombie Caves and the Wellington Caves and Phosphate Mine.
For an experience of a different kind discover space and learn about astronomy at any of the six observatories in the region - Siding Springs and Skywatch near Coonabarabran, Darby Falls near Cowra, Gilgandra, Dubbo and the Radio Telescope at Parkes.
